What to know

The R1 is Unitree's attempt to make humanoids affordable. At $4,900 for the Air version, it costs about a third of the base G1.

The trade-offs are real: about one hour of battery, fewer joints, and simpler cameras on the Air. The standard R1 adds a moving waist and head and a stereo camera for $5,900.

It is best thought of as an entry ticket to humanoid robotics for schools, makers and developers, not as a home assistant.

Good for

  • Schools and makerspaces
  • Developers on a budget
  • Anyone who wants the cheapest real humanoid

Watch out for

  • Only about 1 hour of battery
  • The Air version has no waist or head movement
  • Short warranties (6–8 months on non-EDU)
